Background. The relevance of the topic of the article is due to the fact that small and medium-sized enterprises create new jobs, give an innovative character to economic activity, quickly respond to the emergence of new technologies, quickly form models for the use of breakthrough scientific and technological achievements, contribute to increased competition, reduce social tension, which generally contributes to economic growth. The purpose of the work is to analyze measures of state support for small and medium enterprises, its advantages, disadvantages and impact on the economic activity of small businesses.
Materials and methods. Realization of the research goal was achieved through a comparative analysis of state support measures for small and medium enterprises in forms, methods, tools. A comparative analysis of state support for small businesses on the example of different countries. The methodological potential of the study includes comparative, statistical, system analysis.
Results. A review of the forms, methods and instruments of state support for small and medium enterprises used in the Russian Federation (grants, subsidies, federal and regional programs) and other countries is given, an assessment of measures of state support for small and medium enterprises in Russia is given.
Conclusions. The study allowed us to conclude that for Russia, supporting small businesses is one of the priority tasks. Its solution will make the economy more stable and balanced. The use of the best examples of world experience is a flexible and modern tool for business development in our country.
